Karl Urban (Caesar, Cupid, Mael)
January 24, 1999
Karl Urban warned us as he arrived that he hadn't slept for
48 hours and was feeling "mischievous." He proved it right
off the bat by offering visual proof of the commonly-asked
"boxers or briefs" questions, dropping his jeans around his
ankles to display very tidy white briefs. Nice package,
Karl.
Caesar is coming soon to a Xena episode near you. Karl
doesn't know for sure when Caesar will be back after that.
No plans for a Cupid appearance is coming that he knows
of.
Karl has definite favorite lines for his characters: he
loves Caesar's "Break her legs," and gets a lot of mileage
out of Cupid's "What's your name, little girl?"
At the request of a questioner, Karl performed a charade of
"Urban Cowboy," which was mostly an excuse to make him
gallop across the stage.
Karl's been shooting a film in New Zealand in which he plays
a dairy farmer (much to the crowd's amusement) with Danielle
Cormack. He blew a kiss to the crowd that he said was from
Danielle.
Karl auditioned seven times for the Hercules/Xena shows
before being offered the part of Mael in Altared States. He
was then offered Cupid by the HercStaff ("Yes, thank you,"
was his response), then auditioned for - and of course got -
Caesar.
