Robert Trebor (Salmoneus)

August 21, 1999

(no spoilers)

This is my casual, man-about-town look Robert Trebor was bouncy and energetic as always on the stage. He had one very noticeable change: his hair was now a light brown instead of gray. He said that he had changed his hair because it was hard for him to get roles without looking younger.

Speaking of looking younger, Robert mentioned that while dubbing the dialogue for the Black Wolf, he didn't know that one of the guards would be shouting "Get the old guy!" when he was arrested. He said if he had, his protests would have changed from "Hey, what'd I do?" to "What do you mean, old?!"

Thanks. Now can you spare a gold ingot? In commemoration of the end of Hercules, Robert offered up a song: "Brother, can you spare a dime?" One of the fans promptly offered a dime, which he happily took, although he good-naturedly groused that "People give Hudson Leick all kinds of things, but I get a dime."

The theme of Robert's appearance was "They haven't approached me yet, but I'm available." He's available for Xena, for new RenPic shows, for movies... for just about anything.

One thing he IS signed up for is Tropical Storm, the movie production of Missy Good's fanfic story. He is cast as Alistair, Dar's boss. Robert said filming is scheduled to start in Miami in February.

Robert spent a lot of time promoting his upcoming book, Dear Salmoneus: Advice on Love and Money. It'll be out in October.

You are getting very sleepy... you will buy my book When asked about working with Renee as a director in Deja Vu All Over Again, Robert said that Renee is energetic and enthusiastic, but needs to get a hold of her time better. Renee was on a short shooting schedule, and got behind quickly. Robert said he wasn't complaining, though, because he made lots of overtime.

Robert was quick to add, too, that as an actress, Renee is stellar. "I don't think she knows how good she is as an actress," he explained.

When asked if he had any inkling, when working on the first Xena episodes for Hercules, that it would take off like it did, Robert explained how tiny the chances are for any show to take off. He called making any new series a "crap shoot" and said that there were about 2000 ways that Xena might not have become successful, including the near-miss casting of Lucy Lawless. He pointed out that in his 25 years as an actor, Herc/Xena is the first hit he's been involved with, and he's darned grateful for it because he knows many actors never get so lucky.
